You are allowed to reset and realign yourself with God as many times as you need to. Don't forget that.

Burnout Is REAL!

I guess I can start by saying that burn out is truly a snake in the grass! You don't know it's there until it jumps out and bites you! And when it hits you, it can really take you out like poison from the venom of a snake if you don't act quickly.

God has shown me that burnout loves to hangout in areas that have no balance. When we overexert our energy into things with no balance, we are sending an open invitation for the spirit of burnout and his friends to come pay us a visit.

These past few days I have been experiencing an extreme amount of burnout in many areas of my life. Work, personal, spiritual, physical, just to name a few. It got so bad to the point where a few days ago, despite the 100 things I needed to get done on my to do list, I came home and laid in the dark for HOURS doing absolutely nothing. I was just so over it. Schedules, deadlines, my to-do lists, responsibilities, just everything! I went to God in prayer honestly begging Him to show me a way to find balance in all of the things I needed to get done in a healthy way. And God showed me that when you are walking in your purpose, or walking in your calling, resetting and realigning is such an intricate part, and you have to make time to do it. God fills us up and wants us to take what He gives us and use it to claim our territory on the Earth. But, when that cup is almost empty, we have to retreat back to where our help comes from. Emphasis on "almost empty." When you allow yourself to run dry, you will experience the frustration from burn out.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew 6: 33-34 (NKJV)

Application- How to Reset and Realign!

Tips for the MIND:

  1. Reading Your Bible- connecting with God's word is a great way to bring yourself peace. It helps to remind us of who He is and who we are through Him. The more you read your Bible the more you will equip yourself with the weapon of the word which can be used to defeat any attack sent your way.

  2. Limit Social Media Use- Take a moment to step away from social media. There are so many things being fed into our minds through our daily social media scrolls. Replace the time you would usually use for social media with something you've been putting off doing.

  3. Soak Up Inspiring Content- Play worship music, read a book or blog that's uplifting, listen to a podcast, or sermon that can bring you back to the feet of God. Many of these things can help greatly when trying to realign yourself with God.

Tips for the BODY:

  1. Exercise- Prayer walks with God are a good way to get the blood flowing in your body and to have an intimate moment with just you and Him. Prayer walks will bring you deeper revelation when you hear "He walks with me."You would be surprised by how much more clarity He will bring to you in these intimate types of moments.

  2. Clean Eating- Detoxing your body from harsh foods is a great way to lift the weights of the world off of you, quite literally. Eating cleanly as much as possible can really help you refocus believe it or not! Drinking the recommended amount of water and replenishing your body of the necessary vitamins and nutrients it needs has been proven to clear our minds and our thinking.

  3. Rest- Going hard until you can't go anymore is a backwards way of thinking that we have adopted as a society. Yes, faith without work is dead, however, if you are burnt out, you aren't doing yourself any favors. We must find time to intentionally take moments to rest in God. This quiet time allows God to revive our minds, bodies and spirits. It is also much harder to recognize the enemy when he is near when you are battling fatigue.

Tips for the SOUL:

  1. Prayer- connecting with God through prayer plays a vital role in bringing yourself back from burn out. Prayer is your time to sit with God and have a conversation. It's your time to refill your cup, draw your strength, and receive the resources you need to continue to press towards the mark.

  2. Fasting- Turning down your plate is a great way to reset and realign because it gives you an opportunity to restore your connection with God. Fasting pushes you to draw nearer to God because it is His power we need in order to sustain.

  3. Journaling- God tells us to make it plain. When you are struggling to reset and realign, write down what caused you to spiral out of control in the first place. Journal the different emotions you may experience. Write down how God changed the situation, or when that prayer God answered, or when you found yourself connected again. Keep track so that you will always have something to fall back on when things get rocky. You have your personal reminder that God did it before, so you know He can do it again.

I pray that something in these lists catch your eye and you are able to make necessary changes in your life! Burnout is no fun and we must be quick to get ourselves back on the path God has laid out for us!
